Judge Marty McGee has more experience as a trial court judge than anyone now serving on the Court of Appeals.

Biography
I am a district court judge in Cabarrus County with more than a decade of judicial experience in family, juvenile, criminal and other civil cases. This work will provide important insights in evaluating cases on appeal if I am elected. I have more experience as a trial judge than any current member of the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Also, in private practice before becoming a judge, I represented clients in courts ranging from the Supreme Court of the United States to small claims court.

I believe courts have an important, but limited role in our constitutional democracy. I believe in judicial restraint. Politics have no role in our courts, and I am committed to deciding each case based only upon the facts and the law.

Practice of Law:
He is licensed to practice law in North Carolina and admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

Legal Activities:
Judge McGee regularly teaches at legal education programs for judges and attorneys and serves on the North Carolina Association of District Court Judges' Education Committee.  He also enjoys writing about legal topics and has hosted Court Q & A, a television program dedicated to educating the public about legal issues.

Education:
He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Wake Forest University School of Law.
Grad School: Wake Forest
Juris Doctorate
College: The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

The Court of Appeals reviews the work of trial courts to ensure the proper application of our laws.  I have more experience as a trial judge than anyone currently serving on the Court of Appeals. I have presided over tens of thousands of cases involving criminal, family, juvenile and other civil law matters. In the last decade, my work has involved nearly every aspect of life in our state.

My work — in some of our state's busiest courtrooms — has ideally prepared me to meet the challenges of reviewing the decisions of our trial courts. I understand our legal system from the bottom up. Who better to evaluate the decisions of the trial courts than an experienced trial judge?

I regularly teach legal education courses to judges and lawyers and I am a member of the District Court Judges' Education Committee. I enjoy the academic aspects of my work, but I never forget that each case affects the lives of the persons who appear before me as well as our community.

Before becoming a judge, I represented people in courts ranging from small claims court to the Supreme Court of the United States.  I believe in judicial restraint. Our courts have an important, but limited role in our constitutional democracy. As a judge, my record is one of following the law regardless of my personal opinions or public pressures.

I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Wake Forest University School of Law.

My wife, Debin, and I have been married for more than twenty years. We have two daughters and we are active in all of their school and extra-curricular activities.
