David Rouzer for US House Representative

US House of Representatives
District 7
David Rouzer (R)
108 Peach Orchard Drive
Benson, NC 27504

Name: David Rouzer
Age: 40
Date of Birth: Feb. 16, 1972
Residence: McGee’s Crossroads, NC
Education: I am a graduate of N.C. State University where I earned degrees in Agricultural Business Management, Agricultural Economics, and Chemistry.  I am also a graduate of the Fund for American Studies’ Institute on Business and Government Affairs and their American Institute on Political and Economic System in Prague, the Czech Republic
Professional experience:  I am self-employed, earning my living doing business consulting and sales work. I was elected to the NC Senate in 2008 and am serving in my second two year term, representing Johnston and Wayne counties.  I co-chair four different committees:  the Joint Committee on Regulatory Reform, the Senate Agriculture and Environment Committee, the Environmental Review Commission, and the Senate Natural Economic Resources Subcommittee on Appropriations.  Prior to running for state Senate and starting my consulting and distributorship businesses, I served as a senior advisor to U.S. Senators Jesse Helms and Elizabeth Dole, was a senior executive presidential appointee at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and also worked as assistant to the dean for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at NC State University.
Community:  I raise money annually for the Brain Tumor Center at Duke University, am a charter member of the Mid-Day Clayton Rotary, am a member of several chambers of commerce in Johnston County, work with First in Families in Johnston County to help disadvantaged children, work with the School of Christ statewide (a prison ministry), and am a member of First Baptist Church.
Personal Statement:
I learned the value of hard work from my summers working on our family's tobacco farm – saving the money I earned to pay my way through college. My work ethic and common sense approach to problem solving was instilled early on during those hot summers.
That background enabled me to excel at bringing forth solutions when I served the people of this state under US Senators Jesse Helms and Elizabeth Dole, during my work for NC State University, my work at the US Department of Agriculture, and in my work with small businesses.  When I left the Executive branch in 2006 and came home to North Carolina, I started my own consulting business to help keep the federal government from over-burdening farm families and other businesses important to North Carolina with new regulations that hinder job growth.
My experiences working in the US Senate, being self-employed, and serving in the state Senate have provided me the experience necessary to make the tough decisions and help bring about solutions to the complex problems our country faces. In Raleigh I cut wasteful spending, tackled burdensome rules and regulations, and balanced the state budget. And in Washington, I’ll do the same.
